Nancy Joe Davis
July 17,1938 - November 1, 2008

 

DURHAM New Hampshire - Nancy-Jo Jenkins Davis Lapham, 70, of Mill Road, died Nov. 1, 2008, in Dover.

Born in Kittery, Maine, on July 17, 1938, she was the daughter of George W. and Edith (McCarthy) Jenkins, and George and Berniece (McCarthy) Davis. Raised in Portland, Maine, she attended Portland schools, graduated from Westbrook Junior College, and attended nursing school at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.

While living in the Boston area, Nancy-Jo worked for 22 years as an executive secretary at Mass General Hospital. She retired in 1993 and moved to Durham.

For several years she volunteered at the Therapeutic Riding Program at the University of New Hampshire. For several years she had helped plan and raise funds for the Newfie Fun Days. She had also volunteered at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Gary P. Lapham of Durham; siblings, George Harold Jenkins of Porter, Maine, Thomas H. Jenkins of Eliot, Maine, James C. Jenkins of Kittery, Maine, and George T. Davis Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Savannah J. M. Lapham, Zachary P. Lapham and Klaudia DeLorey; two stepsons, Mark P. Lapham of Dover, Budd J. Lapham and his wife, Justina, of Billerica, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by siblings, Daniel J. Jenkins, and Corinne Ann Goff.

Services were held at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.  Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
