WESTBROOK -- Norise A. Dolley, 70, of East Bridge St. died Friday, April 4, 2008, in a Portland hospital.
He was born in Portland, the son of Norise and Mary Alice Irving Dolley. He was raised and educated in Portland and was a graduate of Deering High School. Norise was a gifted athlete while at Deering; he lettered in football, baseball, track and other sports, was a captain on the baseball team, was the first recipient of the Carlton Wiggin Sports Award and invented a game called E.M. Ball, which still survives.
Norise served in the U.S. Air Force as a crash, rescue firefighter from 1957 to 1961. He was a plumber, he worked for local plumbing and heating companies before starting his own, which he ran until retiring. He was a call fireman for Ladder 1 and served as captain for several years, for the Westbrook Fire Dept. He retired in 1980. He was also an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Susan Dolley of Westbrook; three sons, James A. Dolley of Wisconsin, John H. and wife Yumi Dolley of California, Jason S. and wife Rhonda Dolley of Gorham; four grandchildren, Nicholaus, Alyssa, Nanami and Manami; a brother, Eugene Dolley of Scarborough, and a sister, Maureen Worsley of Georgia. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., with memorial services starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.
